
Governance of The Academy
Mwashita Academy has a well-defined governance structure which is made up of professional, business, and academic leaders. These include representatives of key stakeholders who among them are parents and employees’ representative. The Board of Directors is the topmost body responsible for decisions on investment levels, development of infrastructure, strategy and high-level policies and the general direction of the Academy.

Board of Directors
The Board of Directors has a very important role in the Academy’s functioning. The directors meet once every term to discuss issues to do with the Academy. The Board of Directors’ role is fundamentally to formulate policy. The Board distances itself from the day to day running of the Academy, which is left in the hands of the Principal, who naturally has far more experience in such matters than do members of the Board of Directors. There is no limit to tenure to the members of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall be the overall policy makers who are entrusted with conserving and protecting the constitution.

Academy Board of Governors
The purpose of the Academy Board is to develop between teacher and the school community at large, united efforts to secure for all children, the highest advantages in intellectual, physical, emotional, and social education and spiritual awareness, and to provide a continuing channel of communication among the various sectors of the community to promote an atmosphere of goodwill and cooperation. The Academy Board is the structure through which parents and guardians of the school, can work together for the best possible education of their children.

Board of Governors Authority
The Board of Governors is responsible for the operation of the school within the guidelines and policies adopted by the Body of Directors and Ministry of Education. The board has authority only when meeting in official session; individual members may not speak for the Academy Board unless directed by the board to do so. All actions of the Academy Board are implemented through the Principal
Role of the Board of Directors
- To appoint the Principal and to monitor his/her performance.
- In conjunction with the Academy Board of Governors (Hereafter called the Academy Board), to define, protect and promote the ethos of the school.
- In conjunction with the Academy Board, to set the strategic direction of the school in all matters.
- In conjunction with the Academy Board , to agree on all matters of policy.
- To oversee the financial management of the Academy. This includes setting of fees and salaries, approval of recurrent and capital expenditure budgets and monitoring the adherence to such agreed budgets.
- To engage in high level conflict resolution as and when such a need arises.
Composition
The members of the Academy Board of Governors shall consist of ex-officio and regular members as follows:
- The Founder of the Academy.
- The Academy Principal.
- Vice Principal/Administrator
- Two Educators.
- A representative nominated by the Regional Director on behalf of the Secretary of Education and Culture.
- One parent / guardian member per 50 learners+ elected at an Annual General Meeting (AGM) or co-opted by skills possessed by individual.
- By general agreement or vote of the Board of Governors, any person with particular expertise may be seconded for a set period of time, or permanently depending on the needs of the Academy Board at the time. Such a person shall not have a vote. The Academy Board may establish committees on grounds of expertise, but an elected Academy Board member must chair the specially established committee
- Head of general services.
Qualifications
A person serving as a member of the Academy Board shall be 30 years or older and should have passed at least five subjects at O Level and having a tertiary qualification.
